Monday, April 18, 2022
The filing deadline for those that reside in states other than Maine or Massachusetts. By law, Washington, D.C., holidays impact tax deadlines for everyone in the same way federal holidays do. The due date is April 18, instead of April 15, because of the Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia for everyone except taxpayers who live in Maine or Massachusetts. (C-Corps – If the fiscal year is different than the calendar year, C-corps must file by the 15th of the fourth month following the end of their fiscal year.) Tax payments are also due regardless of an extension (*see below).

Tuesday, April 19, 2022
Maine or Massachusetts
Taxpayers in Maine or Massachusetts have until April 19, 2022, to file their returns due to the Patriots’ day holiday.

Extensions

If you wish to extend your tax returns, we must receive written approval, a signed Extension Acknowledgement Agreement & payment from you to extend your tax returns. We cannot legally file an extension without permission. So, if we don’t hear from you, an extension will not be filed. Failure to file is a huge penalty (5% per month based on tax due). An extension to file is NOT an extension to pay. Taxes are due March 15, 2022, for S-Corps & Partnerships. Taxes are due April 18, 2022, for individuals, single member LLC’s, Sole Proprietors & C-Corps except those residing in Maine or Massachusetts. Failure to pay is a smaller penalty (0.5% per month based on tax due).
